Open Networking Foundation and ON.Lab to Merge to Accelerate Adoption of SDN

Software-Defined Networking Pioneers to Chart Next Phase of SDN; Fueling SDN Adoption by Owners and Operators of Large Networks

PALO ALTO, Calif., October 19, 2016 – The Open Networking Foundation (ONF) and Open Networking Lab (ON.Lab), two pioneering non-profit organizations dedicated to the widespread adoption of SDN, today announced an agreement to become a single organization under the ONF name. Joint operations will begin immediately, and will be led by ON.Lab Founder and Executive Director, Guru Parulkar. The legal combination of Open Networking Foundation and ON.Lab is expected to be completed in late 2017. Until that time, the organizations will maintain the integrity of both organizations and separate but closely affiliated operations.

Princeton University Contributes iSDX Code to Open Networking Foundation's OpenSourceSDN.org

OpenSourceSDN.org Code Repository and Software Development Community to Build on iSDX Project, Offering Internet Exchange Service Providers Improved Network Control and Management

PALO ALTO, Calif., April 19, 2016 – The Open Networking Foundation (ONF), a non-profit organization dedicated to accelerating the adoption of open Software-Defined Networking (SDN), today announced that Princeton University has contributed the code from its open source Internet Exchange project to the OpenSourceSDN.org code repository in order to be built upon by the software development community. Initially announced during the Open Networking Summit by Arpit Gupta, graduate student at Princeton and project team leader, the donation of iSDX (Industrial-Scale Software Defined Internet Exchange Point) marks OpenSourceSDN.org’s 30th open source SDN project.

PALO ALTO, Calif., April 6, 2016 – The Open Networking Foundation (ONF), a non-profit organization dedicated to accelerating the adoption of open Software-Defined Networking (SDN), today announced open registration for the organization’s annual interoperability event. AppFest 2016 will be held May 16-19, 2016 at the University of New Hampshire InterOperability Lab (UNH-IOL), an independent provider of broad-based testing and standards conformance services for the networking industry, and also an authorized OpenFlow® testing lab. This year’s AppFest will feature ONF’s first-ever “Community Day”, opening the event to the broader SDN community and giving insider access to operators and end users who are not ONF members.

PALO ALTO, Calif., February 16, 2016 – The Open Networking Foundation (ONF), a non-profit organization dedicated to accelerating the adoption of open Software-Defined Networking (SDN), today announced the second release of Atrium, an open SDN software distribution, by extending it to the OpenDaylight platform. This release builds on the first open SDN software distribution, Atrium 2015/A, released by the organization last June. Atrium 2016/A is a vertically integrated set of open source components that together form a complete SDN stack and is designed to facilitate the networking industry’s adoption of open SDN by integrating established open source SDN software with some critical connecting pieces.

Open Networking Foundation Completes Industry's First Wireless Transport SDN Proof of Concept

Member Companies Test Open SDN PoC Developed by ONF-sponsored OpenSourceSDN.org Community

SDN AND OPENFLOW WORLD CONGRESS, Düsseldorf, Germany, October 13, 2015 – The Open Networking Foundation (ONF), a non-profit organization dedicated to accelerating the adoption of open Software-Defined Networking (SDN), has completed the industry’s first multi-vendor Wireless Transport SDN Proof of Concept (PoC). Furthering ONF’s goal of promoting greater commercial adoption of SDN, the PoC was designed to encourage the development, testing, and implementation of open SDN for Wireless Transport and to demonstrate multi-layer optimization on an open SDN infrastructure. This PoC originated in ONF’s Open Transport Working Group and evolved from a specification into an open source software project in the OpenSourceSDN.org community that ONF sponsors and that is open to the public.

Exams are available to everyone and are free of charge for the first 100 participants. Testing and training sessions for the examinations will be held at the SDN & OpenFlow World Congress October 12-16 in Düsseldorf, Germany.

Open Networking Foundation-Sponsored Open Source Projects Aspen and Boulder Highlight Need for Network Portability and Agility Through Intent-Based Code 

PALO ALTO, Calif., September 23, 2015 – The Open Networking Foundation (ONF), a non-profit organization dedicated to accelerating the adoption of open Software-Defined Networking (SDN), today announced the availability of two intent-based Northbound Interface (NBI) open source projects developed by the OpenSourceSDN.org community, Aspen and Boulder. Earlier this year, ONF announced its plans for expanding its work in open source software development with the creation and sponsorship of the OpenSourceSDN.org community, and it announced the development of Atrium 2015/A, a software distribution integrating previously standalone open source components. The two intent-based projects build on these efforts as part of ONF’s ongoing mission to create an ecosystem and architecture that bring open SDN to network operators around the world.

Open Networking Foundation Announces OpenFlow v1.3 Test Specification

Global Conformance Testing Program Continues Expansion with Addition of Seventh Testing Lab

PALO ALTO, Calif., September 8, 2015 – The Open Networking Foundation (ONF), a non-profit organization dedicated to accelerating the adoption of open Software-Defined Networking (SDN), today announced the availability of the OpenFlow® v1.3 testing specification. ONF also announced the addition of its seventh authorized testing facility, the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) in South Korea. With the release of the testing specification for OpenFlow v1.3, any organization can test its products for OpenFlow conformance at an accredited ONF testing lab.
