ONF is funded solely through membership dues. Any organization that shares the goals of the ONF may join.
Partners share ONF’s vision and mission and are looking for close alignment with our strategy and execution. Partners steer and influence the entire ecosystem, leverage our open source platforms and solutions and actively engage with us to transform their businesses and the industry at large.
Collaborating Innovators contribute both financially and with time & skills (with a minimum of one dedicated FTE). Collaborating Innovators influence the direction of the ONF through active involvement and with the opportunity to run for an at-large ONF board seat. They also benefit from access to additional support and co-marketing opportunities.
Innovators are organizations that more typically ‘consume’ ONF project output, but who do not have the resources to significantly contribute back. By financially supporting the ONF, these organizations help fund the ONF Lab and work products from which they are benefiting. They also benefit from the ONF’s Developer Assistance program to help ensure their success working with ONF projects, they have access to the Open Innovation Pipeline and Software-Defined Standards activities, and they can participate in the ONF marketplace to promote their innovations. Membership fees are based on company revenues.
Collaborators contribute personnel resources (minimum of 1 FTE with demonstrable deliverables) without making a financial contribution. Collaborators receive access to community resources and can influence the direction of ONF’s efforts through open source contributions by merging in features and capabilities beneficial to their goals.

Transforming Networks with SDN
The SDN movement, led by the ONF, resulted in the disaggregation of networking devices and control software and has facilitated the emergence of a broad range of open source platforms.
Now, in the next phase of the SDN revolution, the ONF is building solutions by providing open source platforms that pull together building blocks from the disaggregated components to transform networks into agile platforms for service delivery.
With a robust community of operators, vendors and system integrators, ONF member companies have the opportunity to plug in their innovations into specific use cases and carry their solutions into operator PoCs, trials and deployment into production networks.
