From mid-sized enterprise organizations to large data centers, Software Defined Networking (SDN) is solving challenges that traditional networking architectures cannot. Allied Telesis is an engaged member of the Open Network Foundation (ONF), working on technology developments and building awareness of the many business benefits that SDN can deliver.
We have deployed a pure OpenFlow wired and wireless solution at the ONF’s headquarters in Palo Alto, California, using product from our x930 series of stackable Gigabit Layer 3 switches and the open-source Faucet SDN controller. Faucet uses the OpenFlow protocol to control the switch, exposing forwarding tables that can be modified directly, without the need for specialized drivers.
We also were sponsors of the recent SDN Faucet Hackfest in Bangalore, India, where all participants and guests connected to Openflow WiFi with their laptops and mobile devices using our x930 hardware as the SDN-OF target switching platform. At one point in the event, over 24,000 flows were running on the switch.
