Taking Time To
Give Thanks

Guru Parulkar takes some time to thank the community and take a look back at the year’s accomplishments.

This Thursday, families and friends in the U.S. will gather together to share gratitude and eat some great food, in celebration of the Thanksgiving holiday. The U.S. secular holiday, celebrated every November to remember the coming together of the Plymouth colonists and Wampanoag Native Americans, is a day where people reflect and give thanks. As such, the ONF team and I are reflecting on what we are thankful for. Personally, I am thankful for my loving family, my great friends, and of course you, the ONF community.

Without the community, ONF would not be what it is today. It is because of the collaboration and dedication of our members and contributors that this organization continues to move forward and be a leader in the industry. This year alone, we have completed two Wireless Transport PoCs, welcomed the contribution of Princeton University’s iSDX code to OpenSourceSDN.org, released Atrium 2016/A, celebrated our fifth birthday, and announced the availability of the OCSP Program Associate exam and the OCSP Engineer exam, with a total of 17 training and testing partners.

The biggest thing to happen though this year would be the joining together of ONF and ON.Lab. As I said in my introductory post on the ONF blog, I am very much excited for what the future brings for the organization and how we will push the industry onward. During this time for ONF, the contributors, board members, everyone that makes up ONF, are more important than ever. As ONF and ON.Lab merge to bring open source and standards under the new ONF umbrella, we have to be creative and work hard to get the best of open source and standards, and harness the creativity of professionals who are good at both standards and open source. Our community is powerful and is the ‘gravy’ behind our joint success in everything we do.

So again, thank you. It is you, the community that makes everything possible. And to all of those that are celebrating this Thursday, we hope you have a happy Thanksgiving!
